Jinzhao Yuan Refrigeration successfully designed and delivered the refrigeration system for a 4,000㎡ medical warehouse at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport — one of China’s busiest aviation hubs and a major gateway for pharmaceutical imports and exports.
Project Background
Guangzhou Baiyun Airport handles a substantial volume of international pharmaceutical air freight, including temperature-sensitive vaccines, clinical trial materials, and high-value biologics. The airside medical warehouse required a refrigeration system capable of maintaining precise multi-zone temperature control under high-frequency loading/unloading operations, 24/7 continuous throughput, and strict CAAC/CAA air cargo pharmaceutical handling compliance.
Solution & Technical Highlights
- Facility Type: Airport Airside Medical Cargo Warehouse
- Total Area: 4,000 ㎡
- Temperature Zones:
- Cryogenic Zone: -70°C ~ -20°C (deep-frozen biologics)
- Cold Zone: 2°C ~ 8°C (vaccines, antibiotics, insulin)
- Cool Zone: 15°C ~ 25°C (standard pharmaceutical products)
- Refrigeration Equipment: High-efficiency scroll + screw parallel units; cascade refrigeration system for cryogenic zone
- Special Features:
- Rapid temperature recovery system for high-traffic loading dock areas
- Independent air-handling units (AHUs) with HEPA filtration for each temperature zone
- Cargo tracking and temperature data recording integration with airport cargo management system
- Emergency backup power with <30-second automatic switchover
- Insulation: 200mm PU panels with stainless steel interior finish (pharmaceutical cleanroom grade)
Regulatory Compliance
Designed and validated in accordance with:
- IATA CEIV Pharma standards
- China NMPA Guidelines for Temperature-controlled Air Cargo
- CAAC pharmaceutical air cargo handling regulations
- WHO-GDP cold chain requirements
Results
- Achieved IATA CEIV Pharma certification for the facility
- Supports handling of over 500 tons of pharmaceutical cargo per month
- Temperature deviation incidents reduced to zero since system commissioning
- Recognized as a model pharmaceutical cold chain facility by Guangzhou Airport Authority
